What is a Working Group?

Welcome to the Working Group page of the World Microfinance Forum Geneva
The World Microfinance Forum Geneva (WMFG) Working Groups serve to advance knowledge and improve practice on complex issues in the area of inclusive finance investment. Each group consists of 15 or more high-level decision makers from key stakeholder groups, selected on the basis of reputation and experience. Working Group Partners and Members contribute resources to cover the costs of the group’s activities.

A Working Group’s key activity is research on the issue in question. WMFG assists the Working Group in setting the research agenda, organises the operational team, oversees the workflow and executes quality control. We ensure the publication of Working Group research in an appropriate format and target dissemination via electronic and physical channels.

A Working Group convenes two or three times per year for 2 to 3 hour closed workshops. WMFG schedules these workshops around major third party conferences which most Group Members would like to attend. This offers Partners an opportunity to present the Group’s work in the main conference and facilitates dialogue on the Group’s issue with additional industry experts.

To guide its research, each Working Group has exclusive access to a closed Online Portal accessible via the WMFG website. It includes a tailor-made library that includes the most up-to-date third party and Group research on the Group’s issue, as well as updates of ongoing Group-commissioned research. It also has a platform for structured and informal virtual networking.

To disseminate their research, Working Groups communicate frequently with the media. Press releases, press conferences and individual interviews for key Working Group Partners help to increase the Group’s standing and influence. This assists in the conversion of increased knowledge into improved practice.
