Activities of the Investment in Inclusive Finance in China

On 24 and 26 March 2010, the World Microfinance Forum Geneva (WMFG) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) held workshops with approximately 40 international and local investors and regulators in Beijing. The purpose of the workshops was to consult interested parties on the objectives, composition and functioning of the Working Group on Investment in Inclusive Finance in China, as well as on potential areas of research to be undertaken under the auspices of the Group.

The consultations highlighted the need for a neutral, research based platform that incorporates views from both local and international perspectives and involves regulators from both the People's Bank of China (PBoC) and the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC). High level patronage from the National People’s Congress is also required to appropriately channel any policy recommendations that may emerge.

WMFG’s CEO will be visiting China again from 5 to 9 July 2010 to meet with regulators and investors that share the goal of promoting inclusive finance in China. If you are an investor based in China and would like to meet Vidhi Tambiah, please contact us.
